Cake Boy

This project began with the theme of "intimate relationships", yet it is not a documentary of love, but rather a personal journey exploring the essence of intimacy through imagery. They were made in moments that suddenly moved me, prompting the thought, "I want to remember this moment", and so I pressed the shutter of my film camera. Concurrently, I employed a 120 camera to create more "staged" self-portraits, framing both myself and my boyfriend within the same composition. These photographs resemble less commemorative portraits and more an act of deliberate contemplation: placing our relationship upon a stage, replicating it, confronting it, scrutinising it, and tenderly embracing it. To me, many emotional relationships are fluid—like water, without fixed form or absolute direction. They shift temperature, velocity, and trajectory without warning. This instability often leaves me oscillating between contentment and unease. Intimacy brings closeness, yet also vulnerability; it offers security while quietly pushing certain boundaries. I choose to confront all this through my camera—not to control emotions, but to acknowledge them, to listen to them. Each press of the shutter feels like telling my present self: 'Even if all this will change, it has genuinely happened in this moment. ' This project does not seek to document specific events, but to capture that constantly shifting emotional state—sometimes faintly blurred, yet undeniably real. Regardless of where this relationship ultimately leads, these images will become part of my personal history, the most honest testament to my emotions, my growth, and my relationship with the world.
