Since the Myanmar junta coup in 2021, I have traveled over 1,000 miles across conflict-ridden regions, including Shan State, Karenni State, and Kayin State and Mon State, documenting the profound effects of war and dictatorship. Along the way, I have seen how war and dictatorship destroy lives, families, and communities. Everything familiar is torn apart, leaving only fear, loss, and uncertainty.

This photo essay shows the courage of young people and the People’s Defense Forces (PDF) who are bravely fighting back against the military. Their strength and determination give hope, even in the darkest times.

These photos reveal how life changes under dictatorship. They show the damage to people, nature, and culture, as well as the daily struggles of those caught in the conflict.

Through this work, I want to share their stories, honor their courage, and show the world what is happening in Myanmar.
