Iron boys Wouter van Wessel 2019-ongoing The sound of home is the wind rushing through infinite treetops, the splintering of ice echoing through the cold, announcing the return of the inexhaustible darkness. The isolation seems suffocating, but these boys have been born into this silence. There’s a familiarity to it. They are not the only ones; secluded groups of kids grow up in the deep forests all around Sweden. Having nothing but space, harsh winters, unending summers and each-other, a bond is forged. They traverse the wild as if it were theirs to keep, relying on each other and their machines to keep them going. Unlike 6 generations ago, where most of the Swedish population lived on the countryside, the new generations choose to leave the wild to start an easier life in the cities. In the Swedish mining village of Järnboås, known for its long history of iron production, a group of boys has one final winter before going their separate ways. Leaving the brotherhood forged since birth and the freedom the forest provided.
