Windsbrut
3167 nautical miles under sail across the Atlantic Ocean on a 50-meter traditional sailing vessel, the brig Roald Amundsen.
The special thing about this voyage, however, is neither the ship nor the route, but the crew of 47 adventurous women. On 27.12.22 these adventurous women set sail from Tenerife and braved wind, waves and seasickness until they arrived in Martinique four weeks later. Four weeks at sea, with no connection to the world. The satellite phone is used only for emergencies and to retrieve weather data.
On board is photographer Verena Brüning, who captured the journey in pictures: The everyday life on board, the sailing maneuvers, the endless Atlantic in daily changing shades of blue and again and again the sparkle in the eyes of the sailors, whether from joy and enthusiasm or longing and homesickness. And for some of them also the wish that this journey will go on and on.
The women, between 19 and 67 years old, have different reasons for going on board. Many say they were eager to cross the Atlantic with a female crew. Here they have more self-confidence and there is no man to show them that they can do better. Captain Conni sums it up right at the beginning, "You are not here to make yourselves small, but to grow."
