This project dives into the rearing of Amarú, a four-year-old boy brought up by two lesbian mothers in a context of extreme vulnerability in a shanty town of the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Dissident identities continue to suffer social stigmatization in different spheres of daily life. Milagros and Vanesa, the mothers of Amarú, build this family resisting the multiple forms of violence that weight on their context and identity. Embraced by the supportive networks generated by their neighborhood and by feminist movements, they chose to bring up their child with new principles, re-signifying the violence they suffered in their own lives.
Amarú is a small conquest of freedom. He symbolizes his mothers’ efforts to make more free childhoods possible.
Amarú is to question what we have learnes, he is fearless curiosity, and he is, above all, pain transformed into love.
