Blauer Schatten
The AfD is slowly trickling its far-right views like corrosive acid deeper and deeper into our society. The party's approach seems well orchestrated. Their targeted attacks are never big enough to trigger a real defensive reaction. Their politicians manage to push the boundaries of what can be said and thought. They act according to a new right-wing playbook. And the plan is working. It seems to me that only a minority realize that the AfD's goal is a fascist social order. When I write it like that, I immediately ask myself whether it's an exaggeration. But I believe that this is precisely the point at which people stop looking. The hoped-for adequate reaction fails to materialize. Something has slipped. Convicted top candidates who then become the strongest force with their party. Beaten-up politicians, threatened refugees. Weapons distributed by the AfD as campaign gifts. A scary reality and a political brazenness that we have almost become accustomed to because it seems so normal. I believe 2024 is a historic year that will be looked back on often in the future. It is the year in which the AfD became even more radicalized - and at the same time won a state election for the first time. The party will not be in government in the near future, perhaps it never will. But it has already changed a lot. Step by step by step. So slowly that you almost miss it.
