Revolution in the Shadow of Syria
Since 2022, I have been working on a photographic project about the grassroots revolution in Northeast Syria, also known as Rojava. The project documents the region’s attempt to establish a radically democratic and feminist system of governance, with an emphasis on self-organization and the role of women. My focus is on the daily realities of this movement and the struggle for inclusion, equality, and recognition amid ongoing political instability.
Following the fall of Assad in 2024, my project expanded to the new realities in Idlib and Aleppo, where power dynamics shifted under the influence of the Islamist group HTS. I document the complex interactions between various actors, such as HTS and the Kurdish SDF, and capture the ongoing search for a decentralized and just Syria.
My work offers a visual record of political tensions and the Syrian people's determination to shape their own future. It is an attempt to reveal the human dimension of this prolonged crisis, beyond the dominant narratives of conflict.
