"Home" is more than a place — it is an emotional state shaped by memory, belonging, and continuity. When this state is lost through war and displacement, the effects can be disorienting and lasting. As a descendant of a Ukrainian forced migrant, I am deeply engaged with the question of how a sense of home can be re-established after such rupture.

This photographic project follows a Ukrainian-Jewish family who fled the war in Ukraine and found refuge in a Berlin hotel run by the Chabad community. For over two years, the family — parents and three young children — has lived in one small room. The work documents their daily life, focusing on moments of intimacy, care, and resilience.

Through portraits and quiet observations, the series explores how emotional grounding is rebuilt through routine, ritual, and cultural continuity — especially in the context of dual historical trauma: the war in Ukraine and the recent escalation of violence in Israel.

This is a story about searching for stability in uncertainty — and about how home can be found again, even in temporary places.
