Oh, brother, where art thou?

Paradise - is the place where we were born and spent our childhood. In the 1990s, Troyeshchyna became the center of criminal life in Kyiv. Separated by a river, the largest sleeping district in Europe. A ghetto for the working class people, who lost their jobs and confidence in the future. My older brother is the personification of the first generation of young people in independent Ukraine. Racketeering, heroin chic, MTV, sex and the first wave of techno. Live fast, die young. I saw his life and a generation that is called lost. I heard a lot from my brother, I saw a lot with my own eyes. Due to the big difference in age, not always I could understand and comprehend everything. My brother died, and I realized that I didn't know much about him. This project is an attempt to explore how the time and the place affect on a person's destiny. I use my own memories about my brother, the memories of people who was his friends and grew up with him and reflect them to the same places today. Through the young people who live now in Troyeshchyna, where the key moments of my brother's life took place, I try to recreate fragments of his own biography and explore how the place and it’s main character, the youth, have changed in last 15 years. Thouse photos from this project were included to the art-book "Psalm of Aviation" by Marysia Mianovska and Serhiy Zhadan, 2021
