Sembrando luchas

At the heart of a nation rich in contrasts, Mexican women embody the social struggle that shakes a
country torn apart by a silent war. This land is marked by astonishing figures: 11 femicides a day, over
100,000 missing persons, including 24,600 women since 2006, impunity, injustice, violence...
Mexican women navigate a hostile environment that has taught them to live with resilience. It is a
movement, also fueled as in Europe during the #MeToo movement, by rage and a thirst for justice.
So it is the women, the mothers, the wives, the sisters, the daughters, the friends, the neighbors,
numerous and united by a common cause, fighting for their rights, for a dignified life free of violence. They are found in the streets, singing feminist chants, defying tear gas, carrying the pink cross of femicides on their shoulders, wearing the portraits of those still missing, or cultivating the future with their hands in the soil. Since 2018, I embarked on a long-term photographic project, converging the lives of women of all ages, whose profiles intertwine and complement each other, who rose beyond the status of victims to become true defenders of rights. I have documented in over 20 states of Mexico, the individual or collective organization of many women. Whether they are survivors of femicides, young feminist activists against gender violence in the capital and its surroundings, mothers of missing persons digging the desert soil and Mexican mountains to find their bodies, defenders of the right to abortion on the country's borders, fighters for the rights of political prisoners in the rural areas of Oaxaca, or environmental protectors in contaminated mangroves and drought-stricken regions.
This reportage stems from the desire to account for the commitment of Mexican women in social
struggles, focusing on these fighters who make an impact and become a source of inspiration for all
others. The strength of Mexican women is undeniable. To understand it, one only needs to delve into
their essence, nourished by love, empathy, and a desire for justice.
