Christian Queers
This is a new, deeply personal, and ongoing documentary photography project that explores the intricate lives of Christian queers within the Visegrád Group—a cultural and political alliance consisting of the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia. This body of work reflects my critical stance against the church's predominant narrative, which often labels homosexuality as sinful and pressures LGBTQ+ individuals to forsake their sexual identities.
Growing up in a Christian family in a small village, I have always been interested in the intersections of faith, tradition, and identity. Through this project, I highlight the resilience and diversity of LGBTQ+ individuals navigating their faith within a religious context that frequently struggles to accept them fully.
My photographs capture a broad spectrum of experiences—from couples living in registered partnerships to individuals like Anicka, who has chosen celibacy, and Jaro, who decided to continue living with his wife and kids after coming out. Through intimate portraits, I strive to depict these individuals as they are: ordinary people whose sexual orientation is not immediately apparent in their daily lives. By doing so, I hope to break down preconceived notions and stereotypes associated with LGBTQ+ self-expression.
It is my hope that this project will encourage a more inclusive and compassionate dialogue around faith and sexual orientation.
