Small-town Celebrations
For many years I have been documenting small-town celebrations in the Pacific Northwest of North America; parades, state fairs, vintage car shows, rodeos, chainsaw carving competitions, Oktoberfests and Elvis impersonator festivals. There is something unique about the communities, the people and events that happen up here. The Pacific Northwest is a unique part of the continent that spans two countries is framed by the Pacific on one side and the Mountains on the other. Separating it from the rest of the continent and giving it a distinctive culture informed by its environment and history.
The earnestness and innocence of small-town events, with their limited participants and even more limited budgets. Full of hyperbolic patriotism I am from the city, my world is very different, but the Pacific Northwest is my home; these are my people, and this is my joy.
