The World at Night

"The World at Night" combines photography and writing to create the first formal documentation of nomadic Kazakh herders' spiritual relationship with wild wolves in western Mongolia. The work examines how myth, ecology, and survival intersect in a landscape where wolves are understood not only as predators, but as ancestral and spiritual beings.

A version of this project was recently published as "The Wolfkeepers of Mongolia" in the February 2026 issue of National Geographic.

Over the past three years, I have spent more than three months living with the same community, building trust and working collaboratively on this story. In the coming months and years, I am looking for partners invested in sharing and disseminating this story in ways that serve the larger goals I have to showcase this work, community, and web of traditions in the community itself, throughout Mongolia, and internationally in digital and print publications, as a traveling photo exhibition, and as a book.
