One Last Danzón
The recent work ‘One last Danzón’ is an artistic documentation, accompanied by melodic Cuban rhythms, that moves between vivid portraits, old-time settings and interviews. At the heart of this project is not only the uniqueness of the Danzón, but above all the vibrant community that makes up these last remaining dance halls. Here, age seems to have lost its importance, or at least its negative perception, and gives way to the dancing mania of the guests. A parallel reality seems to be created on these dance floors compared to the streets of the working-class neighbourhood of Guerrero, where the Salón Los Angeles is based and where most of the dancers live. It is precisely this contrast between stage and street that is at the heart of this project. A journey from the performing stage to dancers’ private lives to understand their obsessions, needs and the root of this passion.
