Burned Land
In spain, 2022 was one of the most destructive years since records began, with 300,000 hectares burned. Climate change and severe droughts have greatly complicated the season.
Between 2012 and 2022 the proportion of large fires (where 500 hectares or more burn) has increased by more than 10% compared to the previous decade. Devouring everything in their path, they are extreme events that are impossible for firefighting teams to deal with. The scientific community links them directly to climate change and qualifies them as sixth generation fires. The risk is very great, with catastrophic damage to the landscape, the economy and the lives of the population.
We have to adapt ourselves to fight the fires of the future and assimilate that they will be more and more destructive and dangerous. Trying to reverse the consequences of global warming is humanity's greatest challenge. It is too late for what was urgent.
The origin of 95% of forest fires is human-related.
Firefighters work long hours, often in precarious conditions.
130 people have died as a result of forest fires in Spain so far this century.
Animals are invisible victims. there are no scientifically rigorous studies in spain to know how many have died.
