Promise That

Sitges is different. Not simply a Spanish coastal town, but a place that feels like a promise. A place shaped by hedonism. not loud or performative, but quiet, intimate, almost atmospheric. A queer microcosm where pleasure, sensuality and freedom are not condemned, but embraced. Since the 1960s, Sitges has become one of Europe's most iconic gay destinations, attracting people searching not only for escape, but for visibility, closeness and a temporary release from social norms.

This photographic project explores Sitges as both a physical place and an emotional landscape. Behind the image of parties, bodies and excess lies something more fragile: the longing for connection, tenderness and belonging. The work focuses on encounters between men, the moments of vulnerability, affection and intimacy that exist alongside the town's celebrated erotic freedom.

Created over several stays in Sitges, the photographs emerged through closeness, conversation and trust. Rather than documenting spectacle, the project is interested in quieter gestures: a glance, a touch, the stillness after a night out, the melancholy that can exist within pleasure. The images move between documentary and personal observation, embracing natural light, imperfection and emotional openness.

Sitges appears here not simply as a destination, but as a temporary utopia. It's a space where different rules seem to apply, where masculinity softens and where queer identity can exist without explanation. The project reflects on the tension between desire and loneliness, freedom and heartbreak, visibility and emotional intimacy.

At a time when queer representation often oscillates between hypersexualization and political discourse, this work seeks a quieter perspective. One that understands vulnerability as strength, and tenderness as something radical. A reminder that pleasure and sensitivity can coexist, and that photography itself can become an act of affection.
