“Bridges in-between” reflects upon my personal experiences growing up as a 5th generation Tamil, a minority in Singapore. Growing up in Singapore as a minority, we were never represented on a wider scale be it within the mainstream media or other opportunities. We were not visible and neither did any of us question this as we thought it was the norm. Today with the younger generation, the questions are raised and we are learning to reclaim our right, our space and our voices though race and its issues are still forbidden to be spoken in the public space of Singapore.

This was one of the driving factors on why I had decided to work on this project entitled as " Bridges in between" which seeks to be a love letter to my community. We exist, we belong and here's an insight into the Tamil and the rest of the South Asian community. We are Singaporeans though we still hold on to the practices of our ancestors.

The work explores my pondering, discoveries and questions revolving around my own ancestry, migration, identity, carried on superstitions and rituals practiced through generations. The project also focuses upon my observations gathered around how femininity & masculinity is represented within the Tamil Singaporean and the rest of the South Asian community. The work is in near completion with many different chapters woven together.

One of the final chapters I am seeking to photograph the ancestral route of migration taken by my foremothers and fathers on reaching Singapore in the past. I am seeking to document and learn about my maternal side of migration and distant relatives who remain in Thanjavur and other parts of South India. My paternal side holds many Tamil relatives in Ipoh,Malaysia.
