Un sueño en Azul

A Dream in Blue explores the disappearance of
Indigo in Peru and how a group of women in the Peruvian Andes, are trying to regrow it in their territory.

Although archaeological finds show the presence of Indigo blue in pre-Columbian textiles in Peru more than 6,000 years ago, Indigo disappeared from this territory without leaving a trace, and currently the only way to obtain it is by importing it from Central and North America.

This search for blue becomes a complex economic transaction, not only because of its high cost but also because it contradicts the local artisanal philosophy, which is based on working with the resources that the environment itself offers.

Traditional textile art in the Andes is a representation of the Andean worldview. What many tourists see as souvenirs is actually a representation of rural daily life, the characteristics of the territory, and the traditions that struggle to remain alive.

Through a language that plays between reality and fiction, this project creates the atmosphere of a dream where the lost blue is still present.
