In Metamorfosi, Karditsa, a village submerged in water and abandoned, memories are etched into the ruined houses and deserted streets. Among the ruins stands Thomas Tegas, 68 years old.
His house, marked with the yellow sign of damage, stands across from the fire he lights daily. It is his personal ritual: he sits there until late at night, waiting, reflecting, persisting. At night, he sleeps in a community space allocated to him in the village, but every day he returns, refusing to abandon his land, even in the absence of his loved ones—even his wife, who temporarily lives with relatives.
The fire burning beside him is not just for warmth. It is a kind of light of resistance and resilience, a testament that, even amidst destruction, a person keeps the flame of their existence alive.
