Building on the success of last year’s debut, the Hamburg Portfolio Review, in collaboration with FREELENS Gallery, proudly presents again a new exhibition featuring ten international photographers. These selected artists engage deeply with some of the most urgent issues facing our world today, offering diverse perspectives on the challenges confronting countries, societies, and individuals.
A key focus of the exhibition is the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine. Through the contrasting works of Danila Tkachenko and Ludwig Nikulski, the exhibition reveals how neighboring countries and their people are grappling with the ongoing conflict in profoundly different ways.
Other works turn their attention to the most critical crises facing humanity. Gil Bartz investigates the intricate dynamics of the climate crisis, shedding light on its far-reaching impact on both politics and society. Giacomo d'Orlando, meanwhile, emphasizes the pivotal role of marine ecosystems in combating global warming, underscoring the urgent need for scientific innovation and community-driven solutions.
The role of women, viewed through a cultural and historical lens, also takes center stage. Juliette Pavy’s work exposes the harrowing history of forced sterilizations in Greenland, while another series reveals the systematic oppression of women in Iran. Out of concern for their safety, the Iranian authors of this work remain anonymous.
These ten powerful photographic narratives merge the personal and the global, delivering a call for greater humanity and transformative change.
