About the event

Laura El-Tantawy’s work is a lyrical exploration of identity, belonging, and the environment. In this keynote, the British/Egyptian documentary photographer and Canon Global Ambassador takes the audience on a journey through her career and projects, presenting powerful visual narratives that interweave the human condition with pressing ecological themes.

Her photographs ask essential questions: What does it mean to belong? How do we live responsibly in a world marked by climate crisis, loss of biodiversity, and fragile social systems? With a distinctive sensibility that bridges East and West, past and present, El-Tantawy combines documentary rigor with poetic reflection.

Through her lens, we encounter intimate personal stories as well as urgent environmental realities. This Canon keynote aligns with the central theme of the Hamburg Portfolio Review 2025 — »Climate Realities – Stories from a Changing World« — and invites the audience to reflect on how photography can inspire awareness, empathy, and change.
